Highly experienced “super housekeeper” required by HNW family with multiple residences.
The housekeeper will be based in London, with school holidays and some weekends in Devon, and occasional visits to the property in Sussex.
The housekeeper will work in co-operation with the Family PA (London) and the Estate Manager (Devon), and in both locations will be assisted by a part time cleaner (2 half days). There are other staff employed in both residences. The family also have a home in France, which is staffed and run independently.
The family comprises parents and four children: the two eldest are at university abroad, the 13 year old girl weekly boards and the 11 year old boy is at day school in Sussex. The father is based in London and the mother is in Sussex during the week, returning to London with the two younger children for the weekend. Some weekends are spent in Devon and school holidays are spent either in Devon or in France.
The housekeeper will be focused on looking after the family, who are keen to build a good relationship with someone looking for a long term role. S/he must therefore be willing to work weekends, when everyone is together. During the week in term time s/he will be based in London, but may occasionally be asked to be in Sussex with the youngest child, if the mother has to be away.
Working hours will be irregular, and will include working weekends. At least one weekend off per month will be given, and sometimes more (for example, during the ski season the family are often in France for weekends and so the housekeeper would not be required to work). If the housekeeper works over the weekend, then 2 days off will be given during the week. There will be 5 weeks holiday per year (plus bank holidays or days in lieu), 3 of which will be taken while the family are away, and 2 weeks of the housekeeper’s choice. A willingness to work Christmas and/or New Year would be appreciated.
The housekeeper's duties will include: general housework (including looking after valuable antiques and art), and supervising other cleaning staff; laundry, ironing and clothes care (high end); food shopping and some cooking (family, healthy); assisting with the care of the family dog; packing and unpacking for business trips and holidays; liaising with the PA in London and the Estate Manager in Devon regarding movement between the properties; shopping; occasional child minding.
In London the staff accommodation is a bed-sitting room with ensuite bathroom, the family is currently in rented accommodation while their own house undergoes a full refurbishment.
When this is finished the housekeeper’s accommodation will be a self contained flat. In Devon the accommodation is a self contained flat with ensuite bedroom and separate sitting room.
It is essential that the housekeeper can drive and a car is available for work use. Applicants must be dog friendly, child friendly, and should exhibit experience and longevity of service in a similar role.
Male or female applicants will be considered, but a partner or pets cannot be accommodated.
